The English department is led by Mrs L Irish. English is a very important subject. The skills learned and acquired in the English classroom will be needed in all other subjects. Every other subject will expect the pupil to communicate their ideas by spoken and written English. English lessons will also teach you to listen carefully. At Chantry High School, the English Department integrates (mixes) the four modes :

  1. Speaking
  2. Listening
  3. Reading
  4. Writing
